SILVER TELLYS AWARDED TO KCRA 3 IN THE 46th ANNUAL TELLY AWARDS

Sacramento, CA – June 3, 2025 – KCRA 3 announced today it has been awarded three Telly Awards in the 46th Annual Telly Awards. KCRA 3 brought home Silver awards for their “Lowrider Legacy” and “Escaping the Blade” documentaries. KCRA 3 was also honored with a Bronze award for the documentary “Always Remember Your Name.”

The Telly Awards honors excellence in video and television across all screens and is judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks and production companies. This year’s winners include Encore, PBS, Comcast Cable, Hearst Media Production Group, The Walt Disney Company, National Geographic, The Outdoor Channel and more.

“Escaping the Blade” offers a rare and raw look at how sex trafficking happens right in front of our eyes and what can be done to protect victims and save lives. We have already seen these survivors’ powerful stories reverberate in the halls of California’s State Capitol. In the documentary “Escaping the Blade,” KCRA 3 journalists set out to uncover the city’s shocking sex trade and the California laws allowing traffickers to repeatedly be released early from prison. Four months after our documentary highlighted SB 1414, which would make it a felony to purchase a child for sex in California, the bill was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.

“Lowrider Legacy” highlighted the rich history and cultural significance of lowriding within California's Chicano community. KCRA 3 spoke with car owners, historians and activists about the decades-long struggle against cruising bans and how lowriding has grown into a vibrant expression of identity and resistance.

“Always Remember Your Name” chronicled the harrowing journey of sisters Andra and Tatiana Bucci, who were two of the youngest survivors of Auschwitz. Our team traveled with the sisters on one of their 'memory trips' back to Italy and Poland, in which they teach high school students about the horrors of the Holocaust, so the atrocities are never forgotten.

"We are deeply honored to receive three Telly Awards,” said KCRA 3/My58 President and General Manager Ariel Roblin. “These accolades reflect our dedication as a local broadcaster to impactful storytelling—whether it’s raising awareness that leads to laws protecting children, celebrating the rich culture of our diverse community, or preserving history with the powerful story of one of the youngest and last survivors of Auschwitz. Each of these projects underscores our mission to inform, inspire, and connect with our audience on issues that truly matter."

"We aim to give our viewers a full experience, from the big stories of today to in-depth looks at issues that affect Californians," said Derek Schnell, Hearst Television Regional Director of News and KCRA 3 News Director. "Our journalists jump at the opportunity to take a deep dive into these documentary projects and we appreciate the recognition from the Telly Awards that helps to amplify these important stories across the country and around the globe."

“Our industry is experimenting with new technologies like never before, shaping truly compelling stories to draw attention to some of the world’s most pressing issues,” shares Telly Awards Managing Director Amanda Needham. “The Telly Awards is uniquely positioned to meet the industry where it’s actually making work, be that on television or TikTok.”
